Job Responsibilities

Golder Associates is seeking a Tailings Engineer to join the Ground Engineering Team within the Mine Waste Division. This is a position in the consulting stream and is regarded as a professional person in the delivery of engineering design services in line with the Golder suite of tailings and geotechnical engineering.


Provide Tailings services on projects in the mining industry

Provide technical advice and consultancy on complex Tailings issues to clients (external & internal)

Develop client relationship and build business

Negotiate and review routine project contracts

Use advanced techniques, modifications and extension of theories, practices to synthesise and analyse data for decision making/ recommendations

Build reputation as Technical Consultant / Specialist

Keep abreast of advancing technologies, methods and research & development

Managing, analysis and reporting for projects which may include the following:
* Design and inspection of storage facilities
* The means of construction of tailings deposits.
* The operation and management of deposits.
* The properties and behaviour of tailings.
* Detailed stability analysis including undrained liquefaction potential

Provide safety leadership in Health & Safety (OH&S incident reporting)

Participate in training activities, mentoring and transferring knowledge to junior geotechnical engineers.

Plan, develop schedules, coordinate and direct manpower on important engineering projects to meet deadlines.

Prepare proposals and reports for clients

Other duties as required

Manage debtors in accordance with Golder targets

Health & Safety

Promote Health & Safety systems and program priorities

Act as and custodian of Golder’s Health and Safety best practice

Health and safety performance indicators in line with Golder target

Job Requirements


Relevant Degree in the Geotechnical / Civil Engineering

4 to 5 years' post graduation experience

Financial Knowledge

Experience at a consulting firm

Project Management Skills

MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook , MS Projects, Rocscience Slide 6.0

Own Vehicle

Valid Driver’s Licence
