Job Responsibilities:
Golder Associates Ltd. Yellowknife is currently recruiting for a Senior Aquatic Ecologist to be located in our Yellowknife office. The Senior Aquatic Ecologist will have a background in aquatic ecosystem health assessment using lower trophic community data (plankton and benthic invertebrates), water and sediment quality data, and aquatic toxicity data, and will work with the Golder’s Prairies and North team of aquatic health and water quality specialists.

The candidate’s responsibilities will include:
* Initiating and managing projects
* Supervising, training and mentoring junior and intermediate staff
* Demonstrating a commitment to team building
* Liaising with clients and developing business
* Making presentations and representing clients at meetings
* Interacting with regulators on behalf of clients
* Preparing proposals and reports, on time and within budgets
* Directing the application of scientific and statistical methods to problem solving
* Performing and directing data analysis
* Leading multi-component aquatic environmental monitoring projects
* Leading environmental assessment projects for various types of developments including power, mines, oil and gas facilities and pipelines

Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess:
* University degree (M.Sc. or higher preferred) in Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Sciences
* Minimum of 10 years of experience or equivalent
* Excellent technical writing, communication, and project management skills
* Experience with technical review of consulting reports
* Experience with working on large multidisciplinary projects, as component lead or director/advisor
* Experience with completing aquatic community surveys (plankton and benthic invertebrates) and water and sediment quality assessments
* Ability to carry out aquatic ecosystem health assessments for environmental monitoring projects
* Working knowledge of mining-related environmental practices and aquatic effects
* Experience with presenting technical information to the general public
* Environmental consulting experience

The following skills would be an asset:
* Working knowledge of provincial, territorial and federal environmental regulations in western and northern Canada
* Publications in refereed scientific periodicals
* Advanced statistics experience
* Experience managing moderate to large projects
* Experience providing expert testimony at regulatory hearings
* Experience working on environmental issues with indigenous communities
* Strong leadership, mentoring and team-building skills

Teaching experience, in the area of environmental science
