Job Responsibilities

Golder Associates Ltd. is seeking an intermediate-level Geotechnical Field Technician/ Technologist to join their Ground Engineering Group as part of their Greater Golden Horseshoe Operations, in our Whitby location. The Field Technician/Technologist will focus on technical assistance in materials and pavement related projects and tasks including carrying out site reconnaissance, field investigations and assisting with the preparation of technical reports. They will interact with Golder staff including field technicians and technologists, administrative and professional staff as well as some clients.

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

* Carrying out fieldwork, for subsurface investigations including layout, supervising drill rigs and/or excavators, logging boreholes and test pits, site surveying to determine elevations at specific locations using GPS equipment, sampling soil and groundwater, and detailed site sketches;
* Using specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and/or technical drawings; and
* Summarizing and analyzing findings from investigations and lab testing for report writing.

* Entering test data and producing standard test reports.

Materials Handling:
* Logging and handling of test samples.

Health and Safety:
* Ensuring proper care, handling, and storage of test samples and various chemical products used in laboratory testing;
* Following Health and Safety responsibilities, under all applicable government legislations and Golder policies and procedures; and
* Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acts as a role model to other staff.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications:
* Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma or Degree;
* 1 – 5 years previous experience (an ASSET) working as a field Technician or Technologist;
* Familiarity with, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) test procedures and requirements, and local municipal standards and specifications;
* Willingness to travel short term to complete out of town field investigations;
* Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
* Troubleshooting and problem solving skills;
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage;
* Excellent communication skills (both oral and written);
* Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment;
* Strong team player – ability to work within all levels of an organization;
* Detail oriented with emphasis on safety and quality of work;
* Access to a reliable vehicle and must possess a valid driver’s licence;
* Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff; and
* Maintaining a high standard of behaviour to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrating a commitment to our Core Values

Location Information:

The Whitby office was founded in 1985 and is now part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) / Greater Golder Horseshoe (GGH) Operations that currently provides services locally, nationally and internationally in various client sectors. Currently, our local services include: Geotechnical, Materials Testing, Environmental Due Diligence, Environmental Health & Safety, Pavement Management, Waste and Hydrogeology.
