Job Responsibilities:

As part of the North American Health Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) team, the HSSE Advisor will report to the Operations Leader of one of our Western North America Operating Units, and support the Regional HSSE Leader in our Western North America region. This full-time role will be based in Vancouver, BC and involve providing HSSE support services to projects and offices throughout British Columbia and Alaska.

Some of the responsibilities for the HSSE Advisor include:
* Point of contact on HSSE issues for an identified Operating Unit.
* Assist in the effective rollout of HSSE initiatives throughout the Western North America region.
* Participate in the development of new HSSE strategies, systems and programs as a member of the North American HSSE Team.
* Develop and deploy a HSSE strategy incorporating an Operating Unit agenda with identified Western North America regional needs.
* Liaise with Principals, Associates, and other senior staff to solicit their input and facilitate their satisfaction and understanding of HSSE initiatives.
* Acting as a resource, provide guidance and support to the Operating Unit Leader, Group leaders, Principals and Associates and assist the regional HSSE Leader in implementing the HSSE Management System within the region.
* Assist in aligning HSSE systems with legislative standards/requirements.
* Guidance and resource to regionalHSSE Committees.
* Support the Regional HSSE Leader (Western North America) and the rest of the HSSE team with regards to HSSE staff training, reporting and HSSE incidents and trends.
* Provide guidance / expertise in conducting audits, investigations and inspections.
* Support operations as they deliver services to clients, build client relationships and align with client commitments to HSSE.

Job Requirements:
The preferred candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
* Expert knowledge and competency in Worksafe BC Regulations. Added value for Environmental competency.
* Post-secondary diploma or degree in HSSE, Engineering or related Sciences preferred.
* Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or working towards meeting eligibility requirements.
* 7-10 years combined experience in HSSE.
* Experience in consulting engineering, construction, mining / oil and gas sectors a benefit.
* Experience with recognized management systems (OSHAS 18000, ISO 14001, COR) and auditing certifications.
* Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
* Good problem solver with the ability to identify alternative solutions.
* Self-starter and highly motivated.
* Available to travel throughout the region for extended periods in support of field programs, including those in remote locations
* Available for business travels and extended working hours, when required.
* Valid driver’s licence.
