Job Responsibilities

Golder Associates UK Ltd. have an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer with extensive site experience to join our Ground Engineering team at our Edinburgh office. Working predominantly on projects concerned with geotechnical engineering, rock slope stability for infrastructure projects, rock mechanics for underground openings and general geotechnical support to other project teams, will also provide technical and project management support in the following areas; numerical modelling and geotechnical design.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical and project coordination support on a range of geotechnical projects primarily concerned with large infrastructure projects, underground openings and geotechnical field investigations;
* Work with and support highly experienced geotechnical engineers on geotechnical projects in the Edinburgh office including scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies as well as detailed design, and construction management;
* Develop techniques and methods for solving rock engineering problems, often conducting site visits to resolve these issues;
* Support Project Managers/Directors in business development, proposals and administrative tasks;
* Develop and maintain good relationships with new and existing clients and be able to effectively represent Golder on site;
* Manage and participate actively in the development of budgets and plans for projects;
* Ensure maintenance of a safe working environment by correct application of technical knowledge by diligent and effective use of H&S and Environmental policy and procedures;
* Observe schedules and ensure effective performance through the management and coordination of available resources (on site) to deliver agreed outcomes in quantity, quality and cost of output to meet client (project) needs;
* Understands and adheres to Golder Safety, Health, Environment and other policies relevant to the employee’s actions and role;
* Frequent UK and international travel. Travel outside of the UK will require overnight stays and likely duration will depend on the nature of the project/client needs. This could include up to 50% of year with periods of up to six weeks at a time, or otherwise agreed with the Ground Engineering Discipline Leader.

Job Requirements
* Ability to demonstrate proven working experience in geotechnical engineering, with a particular experience of heavy civils construction management on Urban Development and Infrastructure (UD & I) projects including geotechnical design in office and site based environments;
* BSc. (essential) or MSc. (preferred) in civil or geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, or a similar discipline;
* Industrial Roped Access trading Association (IRATA) Level I qualification or available to obtain within three months of joining due to need to be available to work at height on rock slope engineering projects(over 100m);
* Advantageous to also have underground opening and/or open pit design experience;
* Demonstrable theoretical and practical experience in project management and consultancy, including supporting client relationships, projects, and project teams (including teams of highly experienced geotechnical engineers);
* Strong numerical modelling skills would be advantageous;
* Strong technical writing skills;
* Strong interpersonal communication;
* Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills;
* Ability build and maintain effective client and other professional relationships;
* Ability to manage and work effectively within a team environment;
* Full Driving License is essential.
