We have an exciting opportunity for a hydrologist to join our growing Mine Water group based in the United Kingdom, but working on projects across the world.

The Global Mining Group within Golder provides integrated engineering and environmental services to the mining industry, with clients that include mining companies, consultants, engineering firms, and financial institutions. The successful candidate will be working within our technical services teams which have a depth of technical experience and knowledge across many service areas.

Our Graduate Hydrologist will work with and provide technical support for a range of hydrological and water management projects under the supervision of senior team members. In this role you will have the opportunity to work alongside professional consultants from a range of other disciplines focusing on exciting and challenging mining related projects around the world.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical support for water resource aspects of large scale Mining projects, for example: hydraulic design, water balance modelling, drainage design, surface water components of ESIA’s and Baseline studies, dam and spillway design, and dam break assessments;
* Support a range of mine water management related studies and investigations (from pre-feasibility through to detailed design);
* Assist in conducting rainfall, flow and flood assessments, including statistical analysis, modelling, GIS mapping, flood mitigation design, and risk assessments;
* Work in a collaborative way, taking direction from and supporting more senior staff to achieve project goals and meet deadlines;
* Support Project Managers, as necessary, in business development activities, proposals and other related administrative tasks;
* Support the maintenance of good relationships with both new and existing clients and represent Golder Associates effectively when required;
* Travel and conduct site work, working away both in the UK and internationally. The frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client needs;
* Achieve and maintain a chargeability to be agreed with your People Manager and to be reviewed annually or as determined by specific business need;
* Display a ‘safety first’ attitude in line with an interdependent health and safety culture, promoting positive health and safety, raising safety issues through the appropriate channels and adhering to Golder’s health and safety policy and procedures;
* Act in the spirit of Golder’s values. Adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times and raise concerns as appropriate. Regularly familiarise self with the Code of Conduct and how it is applicable to own role/position within the organisation; and
* Ensure actions and behaviours are aligned to Golder’s Equality Policy at all times.

The post holder is expected to work flexibly and respond positively to changing business needs.

Job Requirements

Skills and Qualifications
Essential
* Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Geology, Geography or Earth Sciences related field with a strong focus in hydrology;
* Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to work, displaying initiative and decision-making skills;
* Aptitude for numerical / statistical analysis and information technology, willingness to learn and adapt to new approaches;
* Technical writing skills with experience of proposal writing and technical reporting;
* Strong organisation approach with good time-management ability;
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written (in English);
* Commitment to Continued Professional Development and continuous improvement of industry knowledge;
* Full Driving licence;
* The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate they have the right to work in the UK.

Desired
* Masters (MSc) degree in Hydrology or related;
* Competency with GIS; competency with flood modelling packages;
* Language skills;
* Experience of international travel.
